We’re proud to share that Steelway Cellar Doors has been honored by the Basement Health Association (BHA) with two national awards: the 2025 STAR Award Member distinction and the 2025 “Job of the Year” Award.
These awards celebrate the dedication and craftsmanship that define everything we do, from cellar doors to supporting foundations and concrete restoration projects. For more than six decades, Steelway has built a reputation for quality that lasts. What started as a trusted name in custom cellar doors has grown into a company also known for its complete range of concrete and foundation solutions, because doing the job right means looking at the entire structure, not just one part.
At Steelway, we believe true craftsmanship is about precision, planning, and care for every detail. Whether we are replacing a cellar door or rebuilding the foundation of a historic home, we approach every job with the same commitment to safety, strength, and long-term integrity.
Our concrete services go far beyond patchwork repairs. We handle foundation reconstruction, retaining walls, stairways, basement entryways, and custom structural concrete work, all tailored to the unique needs of each home or building. Every Steelway project begins with a deep understanding of how the structure was built, how time and weather have affected it, and what it will take to make it sound for decades to come.
No two jobs are ever alike, and we wouldn’t want them to be. Every installation is custom-fitted by licensed, experienced professionals who care as much about the homeowner’s peace of mind as they do about the finished product. From pouring new steps and replacing deteriorating foundations to constructing seamless concrete entrances that pair perfectly with our custom doors, our goal is to make every job stronger, safer, and more beautiful than what came before.
That’s what sets Steelway apart, and it’s why homeowners and contractors across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland continue to trust our team. We take pride in building work that lasts, backed by the same honesty and craftsmanship that have defined Steelway for more than 60 years.
Our 2025 “Job of the Year” recognition from the Basement Health Association was awarded for one of the most rewarding projects we’ve ever completed: a full foundation rebuild for a 140-year-old home in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
The homeowners came to us because they wanted to preserve their historic property, but the foundation had severe structural issues. The basement had only six feet of headroom, and they hoped to expand it to nine feet for more usable space. Once our team began inspecting the site, we realized the existing foundation was too compromised to safely reuse.
Rather than suggesting tearing the home down, we worked with the homeowners to design a complete rebuild that would preserve the original structure while creating a stronger, safer foundation.
Working with a trusted house-raising partner, we carefully lifted the home approximately six feet off the ground. That step enabled us to fully excavate and remove the deteriorated old stone foundation. From there, our crew:
Once all work was complete, the home was gently lowered back into place on its new, level, stable foundation, designed to last for generations. For the homeowners, it meant saving a piece of history. For our team, it was a chance to do what we do best: take on a challenging job, think through every detail, and build something we can all be proud of.
The Basement Health Association’s Job of the Year Award celebrates projects that go above and beyond in craftsmanship, safety, and innovation. Each submission is reviewed by a panel of industry professionals with decades of experience.
Our Haverford project stood out because it demonstrated how modern building techniques and historical preservation can work hand in hand. Instead of taking the easy route, we chose responsibility. The completed foundation not only stabilized the home but also enhanced its livability, added long-term value, and ensured the structure would remain strong for another century.
We’re proud of this recognition, but even more proud of what it represents: the strong dedication of our team, the trust we’ve earned from our clients, and our commitment to doing the right thing for every structure we work on.
While foundation work and structural rebuilding are important parts of what we do, cellar doors remain at the heart of our company. Over the years, we’ve expanded our product and service offerings to better meet the unique demands of homeowners and businesses throughout the tri-state area.
Here’s an overview of the services we offer:
We manufacture and install custom steel cellar doors made from American-made steel for long-lasting durability and security. Each door is built to fit the space exactly, whether it’s a standard size or a fully custom configuration. Our doors are designed to keep water out, provide easy access, and complement the home’s exterior.
For homes that need safe, code-compliant access to the basement, we design and install complete egress entrances, including stair units and cellar doors. These systems improve safety and make basements more functional, whether for storage, living space, or emergency exits.
We also install egress windows and window wells that meet safety standards while bringing natural light into basement spaces. Paired with custom-fit window well covers, these systems enhance both the safety and appearance of a home.
For commercial properties and urban buildings, our diamond plate and aluminum sidewalk doors provide strong, durable access points for heavy-duty use. They’re built for durability, weather resistance, and longevity in more demanding environments.
Beyond doors and windows, our team handles concrete and hardscaping work around basement entryways. This includes pouring new concrete steps, walkways, or pads, as well as repairing or replacing cracked or uneven concrete. By handling both the door and the concrete work together, we ensure everything aligns perfectly and performs as it should.
From our beginnings as a small family-owned business to becoming a regional leader in cellar doors and foundation services, our philosophy has never changed: do the job right, and stand behind the work.
These 2025 awards reflect our team’s dedication and the trust our customers place in us. Whether it’s a simple cellar door replacement or a full-scale structural rebuild, we approach every project with the same mindset: a focus on the building, respect for the homeowner, and pride in a job well done.
We’re grateful to the Basement Health Association for this recognition and to our customers for giving us the opportunity to do what we love every day.
